Basically the best way to describe Fibromyalgia is the patient hurts all over, has fatigue, and does not sleep well. For some reason, the neurochemistry in their brain is imbalanced. It’s not a problem with their muscles even though that’s where they feel pain. It’s almost like a depression where the neurochemistry is off. There is a high correlation in females and high correlation with depression. Fibromyalgia patients run into walls in the normal medical circles. These patients do best with a multidisciplinary approach including psychiatry, wellness, diet, acupuncture, etc. (more holistic type treatments). Dr. Thompson can help with diagnosis and getting them on the right treatment track, however there is no concrete procedure that can help.
Treatment Options: Only 3 medications are approved for treatment (Savella, Cymbalta, and Lyrica).
